Our Mission
You Deserve More Than a Referral. You Deserve a Home Base.
Our Story
How Bossplayah Haven Began
Howie and Doreen Alualu have seen firsthand what happens when systems fail people at their most vulnerable. As community advocates rooted in Washington state, they watched women leave emergency shelters only to fall back into crisis — not because they lacked determination, but because the support systems meant to help them were fragmented, inconsistent, and exhausting to navigate. A survivor fleeing violence would get a hotline number. A mother facing eviction would get another appointment, another intake form, another stranger in another office. Addiction recovery programs couldn't talk to housing coordinators. Housing coordinators didn't address trauma. Everyone meant well. But no one stayed.
That gap — between good intentions and real, lasting change — is what moved Howie and Doreen to build something different. They chose Washington state deliberately: a state with one of the highest rates of domestic violence calls in the nation, where homelessness among families has been climbing for years, and where the referral carousel too often deposits people right back where they started. They believed that the people hardest hit by overlapping crises deserved a place that could hold all of it — at once, without conditions, without handoffs.
Bossplayah Haven was born from that belief. Not as a charity that asks people to perform their suffering, and not as a temporary fix that disappears when funding runs out — but as a true sanctuary. A place built on the conviction that healing is not a linear process with a single department, and that the people who need the most help deserve the most continuity.
Our Approach
The Comprehensive Sanctuary Model
Most social services are designed around categories. You qualify for the housing program, or the domestic violence shelter, or the addiction clinic, or the parenting support group. But life doesn't arrive in neat categories. A mother in recovery is also, often, a survivor of violence, facing housing instability, and raising children largely alone. Asking her to navigate four separate agencies — each with their own intake, their own hours, their own waitlists — isn't help. It's homework.
The Comprehensive Sanctuary Model is built around the person, not the program.
At Bossplayah Haven, we've integrated the four pillars of support — safety, stability, recovery, and empowerment — into a single, seamless path. There are no referrals out. No losing your place in line because you needed help with something outside one department's scope. No starting over. You are one person, and we treat you that way: with one consistent team, one coordinated plan, and one unwavering commitment to your whole story.
This model exists because real change takes time, trust, and continuity. When the people walking through our door know they won't be passed along or dropped from the list, they can finally put their energy toward healing instead of managing the system.
Who We Serve
A Place for Anyone at the Intersection of Crisis and Courage
Bossplayah Haven is for anyone who finds themselves at the intersection of crisis and courage — who is already doing the hardest work of their life and simply needs a system that keeps up with them.
Single Parents
Raising children alone while trying to rebuild is one of the most demanding things a human being can do. We see you, and we've built resources — practical, real-world resources — designed for parents who don't have time for theory.
Domestic Violence Survivors
Leaving is only the beginning. The road from surviving to stable is long and full of gaps the system wasn't built to fill. We fill them. Judgment-free, on your timeline.
People Facing Homelessness
Whether you're couch-surfing, in a shelter, or one missed paycheck from losing your housing, you belong here. Stability is not a luxury — it's a foundation, and we help you build it.
Individuals in Recovery
Recovery doesn't happen in isolation, and it doesn't fit in a 28-day program. We support the whole person — the healing, the housing, the parenting, the future.
Everyone is welcome. Where you are right now is enough to start.
How We Help
Our Four Pillars
Safety & Crisis Support
Immediate, trauma-informed support for those escaping dangerous situations. We help stabilize the crisis so you can breathe and begin.
Housing Stability
From emergency housing navigation to long-term stability planning, we work alongside you to find — and keep — a safe place to call home.
Recovery & Wellness
Addiction recovery support that acknowledges the whole person: the trauma, the responsibilities, the relationships, and the goals. Healing looks different for everyone. We meet you there.
Economic Empowerment
Skills, tools, and guided resources to help you gain financial footing — budgeting, employment readiness, benefits navigation, and practical life skills — so stability becomes something you own, not something you borrow.
Support Our Mission
Everything we build — every guide, every resource, every hour of support — exists because people believe in this work. If Bossplayah Haven's mission resonates with you, there is a place for you in it.
